As part of the 8th Annual Blanket Drive, the Chapter is asking for new or gently used twin-size blanket donations. The blankets will comfort families suffering from home fires throughout the Big Bend Region.
“When someone’s house burns down, they have immediate needs that people may not think about,” said Topi Henderson, a caseworker at the Chapter. “Blankets provide our clients with a shield from the cold, but it is also sends them a message of comfort and hope.”
Last year, the chapter collected nearly 100 blankets. Henderson said this year’s goal is 200 blankets.
“We need enough donations to serve the citizens of the Big Bend Region,” said Henderson. “We’re asking local community organizations, churches, schools and businesses to help us reach our desired number.”
The Blanket Drive will end on December 31. Donations may be dropped off at the Chapter at 1115 Easterwood Drive.
Contact the Capital Area Chapter (850) 878-6080 for information regarding other drop-off points, to make a financial donation toward the purchase of new blankets, or to volunteer. To learn more please visit www.tallyredcross.org
