American Red Cross
The American Red Cross has been serving Tallahassee and the surrounding area since 1917. In the past eighty-three years, it has provided a helping hand by reaching out to local residents, and last year touched the lives of more than 10,500 people in the eight counties that we serve, including Wakulla.
Our Volunteer Disaster Action Team (DAT) members assist local people who have been affected by disasters such as a single family fire, with their emergency needs. After evaluation of the extent of damage, a DAT member may provide assistance to replace essential items such as food, clothing, shoes and medical supplies that are lost or destroyed in the disaster. In addition, where a home is uninhabitable, short term accommodation may be offered.
Volunteer DAT members respond to disasters on a 24-hour a day basis, seven days a week. We are currently recruiting new volunteers from Wakulla to serve the local area. We offer free training and will be holding an orientation session on Monday January 12th, 4 pm at the Senior Citizens Council, Michael Dv, Wakulla, for those interested in joining.
Please call us on 850 878 6080 ext # 122 for further information and to sign up for training.
